Continue blotting at the residue until all of the putty is removed. It may help to either rub in a circular motion or blot at the area with a clean cloth. Leave the detergent on the carpet for 30 minutes to soak so as to leave the putty behind. Use this to cover the area that the silly putty stain is on. The vinegar will work to dissolve the slime so that you can wipe it off the carpet. Scrape the loose putty off the carpet and then apply a remover of your choice.

After 20 minutes place a dry cloth over the silly putty and press down to absorb the detergent. Use a cotton ball to remove the stain and the remaining putty. 5 use a damp cloth to wipe the stained area. Cover the entire stain with the diluted detergent mixture.

Blot the carpet stain and any remaining silly putt. Ensure that the whole stained area is covered with the detergent. Make sure to scrap the big junk. Let the detergent soak into the carpet and leftover silly putty for 20 minutes.

Be cautious not to push the putty further into the carpet. For tough stains let the vinegar sit on the stain for a few minutes before gently rubbing at the slime with the rag. Check periodically to determine your progress. Spray a small amount of wd 40 product to the area of your putty stain and allow it to absorb into your carpet for at least 30 seconds.
