Remove duct tape from carpet.
I successfully used de solv it to remove about 35 short strips of black cloth duct tape from industrial gray black patterned carpet tiles that were being used for a chair layout in an auditorium.
Let it set on the carpet for 15 minutes.
The longer you leave it the more likely it is that the adhesive will dry out and stick to the carpet.
First scrape the carpet with a plastic knife or paint scraper to remove as much tape as possible.
All up i used about 130 ml of solvent from a 300 ml spray bottle.
Poured it on an old rag and then rubbed it in a circular motion.
Confirmation of a great tip.
Then scrape the carpet again to remove as much of the adhesive as possible.
Doublesided carpet tape is a very sticky tape that is reinforced with threads to help hold the adhesive in place between the carpet and the subfloor.
The tape had stuck to the carpet collected dog hair and looked nasty.
Next dab the wd 40 onto the remaining adhesive.
After reading the comments i tried the rubbing alcohol 70 trick.
The adhesive used to produce the carpet tape is very sticky which is an effective feature when the tape is in use.

It took about 90 minutes.
Finally apply a carpet cleaner such as goo gone to finish the clean up.
